Hello There

Hello families of 6R!

I just want to update you as far as what is going on in the classroom.  I am on a short temporary medical leave, taking care of some unforseen medical issues that have arose.  I hope to be back sooner than later, and am missing my grade 6 kiddos every day.  Not one single iota in me wants to be away from my beautiful, intelligent, kind, heart-warming grade 6 students as they are such a big source of joy and happiness in my life, but I have to take care of these medical issues.

Students will go on with business as usual.  I am in close contact with the occasional teacher that has taken my place.  I will be evaluating all assignments that are handed in.  I will return to work as soon as possible.

Book Talk presentations will continue tomorrow.

Math Task on rotating images 90 degrees with an outside rotation point and science projects are due tomorrow.

Narrative Writing based on the Harris Burdik pictures will continue.
Students are working on identifying literary devices in writing this week, along with finishing up Haunted Houses, and our unit on biodiversity
House league Assembly is Tuesday, and our VIP officers will be coming in as well on Tuesday afternoon.

Transformational Geometry

Below are photos from our last two Math classes. We are currently working in the Transformational Geometry unit and our learning goals are posted below.  Our focus today was rotating the figure 90 degrees clockwise and counter-clockwise.

UNIT 2b:  (Whole Numbers and) Transformations

LEARNING GOALS
SUCCESS CRITERIA

I can extend and create repeating patterns that result from rotations.

I can identify, perform and describe rotations of 180o with centre of rotation inside or outside the shape.

I can identify, perform and describe clockwise and counterclockwise rotations of 90o, with centre of rotation inside or outside the shape.

I can create and analyse designs made by reflecting, translating, and/or rotating a shape, or shapes, by 90o or 180o.

Dramatic Events of the Day

The grade 6s engaged in some improvisation activities this afternoon.  They were given a prop and they were instructed to use it in any way, as long as it is done in such a way it was not meant for.
